Metal detector scanning units have a large part in providing a secure environment from hand-held scanners at clubs or sporting events to scanners in office buildings, schools. Such technology has been in existence for much longer time than people knows.

The Way Metal Detection Devices Function

Metal detection functions utilizing the science of electromagnetics. Metal detectors use low volt battery current to project a magnetic field which scans the surrounding area.

The fundamental inner workings of metal detectors is based on the principle of electromagnetic induction. It contains one or more inductor coils which are utilized to interact with metallic objects. The coil has a section known as a transmitter which draws upon its battery current to generate a magnetic field which reacts with any metal found in the area. The metallic object then is magnetically charged and thus magnetically detected.

The coil also has a charged wire which is a receiver. The receiver senses any change in the magnetic field it is near. It is highly sensitive to newly magnetized objects and sends an electrical signal back to the operator.

High quality metal detectors usually transmit and receive through multiple surfaces and find metals which could indicate a security threat.

Choosing a Metal Detector For Safety

Hand held metal detectors are designed to provide scanning in sensitive areas. Wand style metal detectors can be used alone or along with walk through metal detectors. Wand style metal detectors are cost effective, radiation free, mobile, highly sensitive, and require little tunning.

High tech metal detectors are usually, often highly automated, with microchip technology to let the user to set sensitivity, discrimination, track speed, threshold volume, notch filters, etc, and hold their parameters in memory for frequent use.

You need a high-volume and flexible metal detector having lotsof features. Look for the choice to have the alert audible or silent by either providing an earpiece, using vibration or relying on bright LED lights to signal the presence of metal. The length of your unit and the distance of the magnetic field transmitted. You must be able to scan crowds speedily without getting too close or having to bend over too far to scan shoes and footwear. Although most weapons are composed of steel but some are not. So, you need a unit which will detect ferrous, non-ferrous and stainless steel weapons, tinfoil and other metal objects.

With increased concerns regarding weapons detection in our own cities metal detectors seem to be a permanent fixture.

Usually when home owners set up their first wireless surveillance camera systems they have some basic questions that usually are asked:

A common question is, Can I record sound with my surveillance camera system?

It depends, sound recording is not permitted in court or legal cases therefore it cannot be used. According to the United States legal code sound recording is not to be used example, surreptitious or secret use is sound that comes from a hidden device. Therefore, if the surveillance cameras are in open or the subjects sight then sound recordings are viable. However, if any of your surveillance units are hidden or to small to be noticed, such as a spy camera, then sound cannot be utilized.

Hidden cameras would consist of pin hole and micro cameras plus virtually all concealed cameras, such as, a clock containing a hidden camera inside. Audio recording with a hidden device or micro camera is only available to law officers and law enforcement agencies. An exception is the use of body worn cameras, like, a hidden camera in your hat or a hidden camera in a tie clip and so forth. Refer to Title 18, Section 2512.

Often new installers also want to find out the distinction is between a wired and a wireless camera system?

A wired security camera system includes a coaxial cable that runs from the actual cameras to the recording unit such as a DVR/ VCR recorder, or live monitor such as a TV monitor. A wireless security camera has a built-in or affixed signal transmitter that sends the video data from your camera to your receiver unit. The wireless receiver device then connects to the DVR or the viewing monitor.

If you are utilizing a wireless security camera system it is important to think about the distance the wireless cameras are placed from the receiver unit. Most wireless surveillance cameras are able to transmit signals as far as 1000ft. and high power wireless surveillance cameras can transmit up to 2500ft.. These high ranges are based on clear line of sight transmissions. Signals go much shorter lengths if there are numerous walls, barriers, or competing wifi tranmissions present between your wireless cameras and the wireless receiver device.

The most common source of wireless transmission interference is from cordless and cell phones. Cell and handset phones transmit using the 2.4 GHz frequency which will cause interference with 2.4 GHz wireless security camera systems. The good news is that interference is usually minor and typically only when the phone is directly between the wireless camera and the receiver device. Other sources of bad transmission are wireless Internet, networks and WiFi.

The interference coming because of walls and other barriers is usually minor. Generally 2.4 GHz wireless surveillance cameras will send and receive through walls as much as 2feet thick, providing the wall does not contain a high proportion of metal.

Can I have several wireless surveillance cameras at a single location?

The average wireless surveillance camera setup has more than simply a single camera. You will see that most systems allow up to four wireless surveillance cameras in per area. This is because each camera is sending its signal on a minor modification of the 2.4 GHz transmitting frequency which is called the channel. Any in excess of four then the transmitting surveillance cameras will start to cause interference for each other.

To see all four video feeds from your four surveillance cameras at once that will require four separate pairs of wireless transmitters and receivers. You can use a single wireless receiver with four transmitters but then you will have to toggle back and forth to each channel. You can only view a single video feed at a time if you decide to use only a single receiver. If you are using numerous wireless cameras in a single location you will have to set the DIP switches on each camera for a different channel.

What is the primary goal of this spy camera?

Here are very common objectives:

* Identify a thief in an office or store
* Guard your family with spy cameras for home use
* Secure the Kids are not neglected by the Nanny with a secret spy camera
* Find out if a husband is commiting adultery with hidden for your home
* Put in hidden surveillance camera systems for the office

Where will the secret cameras be situated?

* Would you be able to install a long wire coming from the covert house cameras to the monitor?
* Can you get electricity to the camera? They all must have power to run.
* What type of item would fit in to the area and not create suspicion?
* What are the best nanny cameras for home use?
* Which locations can a person place a covert nanny cam without breaking the law?
* Are your cctv cameras for your home or outdoor monitoring?
* How is the lighting in the area? Black & white cameras are better for low light.
* Would you be setting up a solo covert camera or multiple hidden surveillance camera systems?

Do you have to record video to view at a later time?

* What duration do you need to record?
* How much action is there in the space? Hidden cameras for home use capture less video than a business unitcamera.
* Do you require motion activated spy cameras or normal continuously recording cameras?
* Do you require hidden camera motion activated recording or scheduled? or both?

Do you require a wireless camera?

* Find out if you use a cord free phone or wireless network that may interfere with the a wireless transmission?
* Do you want to view the cctv feed live from another room?
* Are you positive you cant run a cable to watch or possibly use a built in recorder to avoid troubles with wireless feeds.

What are my options?

1. Wired – a camera connected with a video cable to a recording unit – effective with spy cameras for home or businesses use
2. Wireless- a camera with a wireless transmitter that you use to send the video with no wires to a near by (hidden) receiver connected with a short cable to the DVR or TV for live viewing
3. DVR Camera – A camera with a internal DVR which records video right to to a Secure Digital Memory card.

A final note typically users want to know… Why can’t I use spy audio? The simple answer is that audio recording violates federal law and you could go to jail if you secretly record audio.

Horrible as it may sound criminals frequently target vulnerable seniors. Crooks are searching for easy victims, they know they can easily dupe elderly individuals. Therefore it is essential seniors take notice of useful self defense guidelines.

Stay Away From Danger

One of the most basic self defense instructions elderly people can practice is to just display self confidence. Remember, predators are seeking out victims who appear to be timid, such people are far less likely to be targeted than people who appear confident and alert. Elderly people who walk with purpose, and keep their wits aout them instead of shuffling feet or staring off into space are not seen as easy targets. Try to, travel with other people, and try to keep within areas where other people are . Criminals are unlikely to attack when are crowds close by. While shopping, try to park as near to the destination as you can, and always stop in a well-lit spot. Criminals operate in dark spots with few people around so they won’t have witnesses. Ladies ought to guard their handbags, however it isn’t wise to put the strap around the neck. Stealing a purse is quite common, and attackers may knock someone over to get what they want. When done shopping, make sure your arms aren’t overly full with bags, and have your keys out upon walking to the vehicle so you are prepared to get in and drive away immediately.

Avoiding A Confrontation

Think about this: if you ever are threatened in a public place, what would you do? Your reaction could what prevents you from becoming the victim or avoiding a potentially dangerous encounter. One of the best ways to dissuade a predator from continuing an attack is to get help. There is safety in groups, because a attacker does not want to be seen by multiple people who will describe them to law enforcement officers. If people are near by, yell for help, or shout for bystanders to dial 911. Merely yelling for help isn’t always enough. So it is good idea to carry a device that gets a person’s attention. Consider a personal alarm. A personal alarm is a self defense device that gives off an ear splitting siren that is an automatic cry for help. It get the attention of anyone in the vicinity, and tells onlookers you need help.

Worst Case Scenarios

Sometimes, in spite of our best efforts, a criminal will set themselves on attacking and nothing will avoid it. A senior safety self defense class may show some simple, but highly effective techniques that are intended to put an attacker off guard providing you a chance to get away safely. You can take a personal defense classes, including classes on defense using items the average person might usually carry. Many seniors have even been taught how to turn their walking canes into very powerful weapons. Senior citizens could also decide to carry a non lethal self defense weapon.

It is important to do everything you can to stay away from danger and prevent an attack, howeverit is also important to realize that if an attacker weilds a gun, knife or any lethal weapon, Your best option is to cooperate. There may be a loss of money or items, but why bother risking life and death.

You have most likely come across GPS tracking technology. But how can you can actually put it to use, and just how does it function. Comprehending the fundamentals of this usefeul technology will help you reach a smart decision when it comes to purchasing a unit that is a good fit for your specific individual or business needs.

Portable GPS tracking has become increasingly common in the past couple of years. Previously too costly for the everyday consumer, the technology was primarily designed for law enforcement agents to keep track of crime suspects. These days, everyone from parents, to employers, and scientists are using GPS tracking for a host of different ways ranging from improving their teen driver’s safety, to tracking the movements of birds and other wildlife.

The Fundamental Workings of GPS tracking Units

The GPS tracking device, an acronym for Global Positioning System, is a device that pin points the approximate location of a human subject, vehicle, or other moveable assets using satellite, cellular (aGPS), or radio waves. In the most fundamental form, the GPS tracker device typically digitally connects with a network of satellites in space. From there, the networks of satellites triangulate the GPS device’s exact location. This means anyone can place the tracker in a backpack, vehicle, or in a pocket and determine their location..

Depending on the type of GPS tracking device you select, the locations the unit travels can be recorded within the tracking device itself to provide a historical record of just where the device has gone, or using a real-time tracking device, the positioning information may be transmitted to a central location or an individual Internet-enabled computer in real-time, each time the unit moves. At first popular with law enforcement officers, many businesses now have made use of GPS technology to improve operations and now also by consumers to protect their loved ones.

Comparing Real-Time and Passive GPS Trackers

There are two main types of GPS tracking: real-time and passive.

Real-Time GPS Tracker

Like all trackers, the real-time GPS tracker continually communicates with space satellites to triangulate the unit’s current location. the element that makes the tracking real-time is simply that the device sends all information to the Internet database constantly in real-time, where you can log on and view the tracker’s progress. Most GPS units also offer detailed information such as time, place, and how fast the tracker is traveling. At first only used by law enforcement agents tracking criminals, this tracking is also available to employers tracking fleet vehicles as well as average people tracking their teen drivers or a family car as it travels.

Passive GPS Tracker

The other key kind of GPS tracker is the passive tracker also known as a GPS logger. Like a real-time tracker, these units continually communicate orbiting satellites, however, instead of sending the device’s position in real-time, passive GPS tracking devices store position points within the unit itself. When you are ready to view exactly what locations the tracker has travelled, you then download a saved record of all places visited. This is perfect for law officers during investigation, or possibly a person who loans a car to an employee, or family member and needs to verify that the driver actually took the car to the place they said they did.
Simple models of anti-theft door alarms only offer the core features: switch them on and you’re ready to go. The more high-end types offer the ability to adjust the settings of the magnetic sensor, provide a flashing light or can be controlled by a remote control.

Portable Door Alarms

You may even find door alarms that are hanged at the knob of your door. if a thief touches the knob a vibration detector starts the alarm. These portable door alarms may be very effective for travelers who wish to have greater security in their hotel room.

Types of Door Alarm Systems

There are two kinds of door alarm security in the market. Wireless and hardwired, both with determined pros and disadvantages. Let’s check each one of them:

Wireless Door Alarm Systems

These type of door alarms two main advantages are that they are uncomplicated to install and are cheap. Their main weakness is that they can’t be controlled by a central system and your battery could run out of power without you knowing.

Hardwired Door Alarm Systems

The significant advantages to a hardwired system is that it lets you take control of the alarms through a centralized system and are less prone to failure than wireless door alarms. The significant weakness is that they can be expensive and harder to put in place requiring you to make holes walls and floors for passing the cables.

Door alarm system Systems should be included in any office or household security solution. Door alarms are a low cost, uncomplicated technology that could end as the last barrier between your valuables and a burglar.

Every organization has to have security. Yet in a time of computer passwords, magnetic keys, security cameras, sensors and security guards do you need a wireless door alarm? After all, if an intruder wanted to access a determined area or enter an unauthorized room, they would have to maneuver through a series of protection measures. How will door alarm units stop a person clever enough to do that?

What Is A Door Alarm?

A door alarm is a sensor device which is installed on the frame of a door. When anyone enters the door the alarm will make a loud sound, telling you of the presence of aburglar.

Door alarms are often found in homes, often as a garage door safety precaution. They are commonly used at business locations as well. These units are easy to use, discrete and not usually noticed.

The basic plus of a door alarm is its low cost put side by side with other security systems. You’ll find door alarms with prices from 10 to 50 dollars based on the brand and the quality of the unit you purchase. Of course, if you’re buying them for your organization you should make a good balance between price and quality. If any thing bad occurs due to a faulty door alarm, you will take the blame for picking it.

How Does A Door Alarm Work?

A door alarm creates a magnetic field. Anytime the magnetic field is broken, the device begins sounding aloud siren which startles the intruder and warns you to the prohibited entry.

Because door alarms don’t eat up too much electricity, a wireless door alarm doesn’t need to be plugged in to the electrical system of the building. The unit uses a simple battery which lasts, approximately, 1 year. If you have wireless door alarms put in or want to install them, you should think about using good batteries and executing a maintenance schedule and replace them at determined dates.

If you have hard wired door alarms, these devices are plugged into a wall socked or junction box. The better alarms also use batteries in case there is a blackout.

What Are The Components of Door Alarm Systems?

A door alarm is basically a sensor and a receiver. The devices sensor is installed on the door frame while the receiver is installed on the door itself. The sensor emits the magnetic field. On the other hand, the receiver will be in charge of emitting the alarm if and when the reception of the magnetic field is broken.

Metal detection scanning units have a big part in making a secure environment from hand-held scanners at concerts or sporting events to scanners in government agencies or prisons. Detection devices have been available for much longer time than the average person thinks.

The Way Metal Detection Devices Operate

Metal scanning works on the science of electromagnetics. Metallic Weapons detectors utilize the battery power to create a magnetic field which scans the nearby area.

The primary inner workings of metal detectors is based on the utilization of electromagnetic induction. It contains multiple inductor coils which are utilized to react with metallic objects. The coil contains a part called a transmitter which uses the battery current to create a magnetic field that interacts with any metallic found within the field. The metallic object then is magnetically charged and can be magnetically detected.

The metal detector also has a sensitive wire known as the receiver. This receiver picks up any alteration in the magnetic field it is near. It is highly sensitive to newly magnetized metals and sends an electrical signal back to the operator.

High quality metal detectors can detect through multiple surfaces and alert you to metals that could mean there is a security threat.

Choosing a Metal Detector For Safety

Hand held metal detectors are designed to provide scanning in sensitive areas. Wand style metal detectors can be used solo or along with stationary metal detectors. Wand style metal detectors are cheaper, radiation free, easy to use, extremely sensitive, and require only light tunning.

The best metal detectors are usually, often highly automated, with microchip technology to let the user to select sensitivity, discrimination, track speed, threshold volume, notch filters, etc, and hold these parameters in memory for future use.

Security pros want a fast and versatile device having plentyof features. You should ask about the option to keep the alert audible or silent by either adding an ear[phone, utilizing vibration or simply bright LED lights to signal the presence of metallic objects. Another key concern is the length of the device and the distance of the magnetic field it can create. You must be able to scan crowds speedily without coming too close or having to bend down too far to scan ankles and footwear. Although most weapons are composed of steel but some are not. Therefore, you need a unit which can detect ferrous, non-ferrous and stainless steel weapons, tinfoil and other metal objects.

Today’s growing anxieties regarding weapons detection in our own country metal detectors appear to be the wave of the future.
